Black Jack Essential Basics - Part 2

We resume our article on the abc's of Blackjack. In Part 1 we reviewed the concept of blackjack, hitting, holding with the current hand and how to double down. In part two we will discuss splitting, surrendering and insurance.

Split: if a player is assigned two cards of the same value (two 8's as an example) the gambler may split them to create 2 separate hands. If you decide to divide your hand you'll have to make a new wager equivalent to the original wager.

Surrender: Some casinos will permit players to surrender the cards they have been given along with half of the original bet they placed before the dealer checks his hand. Once again it is vital to inquire with the dealer for clarification on the black jack table rules or check out the game rules area on the web casino you're gambling on.

Insurance: When the dealers exposed card is an Ace gamblers have the ability to take out insurance. You will lay half of the original bet prior to the croupier checking his cards; if the croupier has blackjack you will come away with a win on the insurance wager but still lose the initial wager. Unfortunately if the dealer doesn't have blackjack the gambler loses the insurance. It's a risk but one that's absolutely worth it, if used as part of a clever plan.

Once a gambler has stood or busted by going over 21 the dealer will reveal his/her hand and will continue to deal themselves cards until one of the following events has appeared: if he has surpassed 17, a croupier will not usually take another card because of the chance of going bust, if they have drawn twenty one or if they have busted.
