The Recorded History of Casino Craps

The recorded history of Craps dates back to a dice game called Hazard, which dates back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Early 1800's. Hazard is believed to be a descendant of Azzahr, which means 'the die' a game played by Arabs.

The game evolved as it traveled from the Arab territories to Europe and then England. By the early eighteenth century, formal game rules for Hazard had been established. France adopted the British variation of Hazard and is believed to have been brought to America by early French settlers. In the mid-Eighteenth century, when the English defeated the French in Canada, the French settlers migrated to Louisiana. Dice were played on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a streamlined 'US' style of Craps was created. The game moved west and is a favoured game that is competed in all over the United States and around the world.

The name 'Craps' is theorized to be a French expression of the term crabs, which means two ones. There are 2 general types of Craps that are played-street Craps and casino Craps. Street caps, accurately named because it's wagered on the streets is where a hurler makes a point and then attempts to acquire that point. The wagering is made either with or opposed to the player and a player has to cover the wager in order for the game to continue.

In bank Craps, which is the familiar game, competed in in betting houses, the betting house funds the game. The players wager against the house-the casino covers all of the wagers of all of the players. Craps once was a very well-loved game but in the past twenty years had split itself and different games, like poker and twenty-one became more well-loved. However, Craps is observing a come back in popularity once again in online betting houses and in real world betting houses.
